Underwater Post Offices Are Popular Destinations For Scuba Divers [Videos]

Susami is a small Japanese seaside town that was i n need of a tourism boost. Well, as luck would have it, the town’s former postmaster, Toshihiko Matsumoto, together with the local diving community got together and came up with the idea for an underwater mail box in order to attract more scuba divers and drive more tourism to the small town.
The post box is located 30ft below the surface. Mail is collected each day and so far, as of this year, to date over 38,000 letters have been sent by scuba divers from the underwater mailbox.
Watch the following video for more insights about how Susami became a destination for scuba divers.
