Needlefish Can Be A Dangerous killer Reef Fish

Reports of a fish lethally impaling fishermen and snorkelers on shallow reefs prompts Jeremy Wade to investigate.

The beautiful waters surrounding the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia has become the site of some rather bizarre impalings and deaths. A series of reported impalings and deaths of fishermen and even a snorkeler over a shallow reef near the shore made frequenting the reef less desirable. In the following episode of “River Monsters”, Jeremy walks us through how he solves the case.

Through a process of elimination, Jeremy methodically goes through a process of evaluating the kinds of marine life that could cause these injuries. He considers known species of marine life that could possibly, even with a huge stretch of imagination, cause these types of injuries and deaths. He considers everything from manta rays to marlin, easily eliminating them based upon interviews and the actual sites of these occurrences. He eventually identifies the killer fish ( watch video below).
